Add a sender

Create the From name and email address your recipients see, with an optional Reply-to address, on a verified sending domain.

A sender is the From name and email address your recipients see in their inbox. Every campaign needs one. It must use a domain you've already verified.

Before you start

You need at least one verified sending domain. If you don't have one yet, the New sender panel shows "You need a verified domain first" with a link to add one. See add and verify a sending domain.

Create a sender

  1. Click Senders in the sidebar.
  2. In the New sender panel, fill in:
    • From name. The name people see, such as your company or a person's name.
    • From email. An address on a verified domain, such as hello@yourcompany.com. The help text lists your verified domains.
    • Reply-to (optional). Where replies go, if different from the From email.
  3. Click Create sender.

The sender now appears in the Sender drop-down when you create a campaign.

Things to know

  • The From email must be exactly on a verified domain. If you verified yourcompany.com, use name@yourcompany.com. To send from name@news.yourcompany.com, add and verify news.yourcompany.com as its own domain.
  • Each From email can be used for only one sender in your account.
  • The mailbox doesn't need to exist in InboxRoads. Still, use an address that can receive mail, or set a Reply-to, so you don't miss replies.

Edit or delete a sender

On Senders, click the pencil icon to change the From name, From email or Reply-to, then click Save. Click the trash icon to delete a sender.

The Domain column shows each sender's domain and its current status. If a domain stops verifying, campaigns that use its senders can't be launched until you fix the DNS records.

Choosing a good sender

  • Use a name people will recognize, and keep it the same across campaigns.
  • Avoid no-reply addresses. Replies are a good sign of engagement, and people are more likely to trust mail they can answer.
  • Mailbox providers expect the From domain to be authenticated and aligned with DKIM and SPF. InboxRoads handles this once your domain is verified. See Gmail and Yahoo bulk sender requirements.

Key takeaways

  • Senders live under Senders in the sidebar.
  • The From email must be on a verified sending domain.
  • Set a Reply-to if replies should go to a different inbox.
